Evolution

This morning on Christian radio they were talking about evolution and about the new movie coming out called--Expelled. They were saying that the evolution debate will be coming up alot more in the next month or so because of that and the anniversary of Darwin's theories or something. Anyway, since I put my modesty article on here, I thought I would share the one that I wrote for the March issue of our newsletter too. I was asked to write it because of the election and the issue on the school board members.

The debate on evolution is very complex. There are many opinions. There are extremely intelligent people and many scientists on both sides of the issue. But, the fact that God is the Creator is clearly taught in scripture: Genesis 1 and 2, Job 38-41, Psalm 104, Romans 1:18-20, and Col 1:16, 17.

There are reports of more and more respectable scientists abandoning the theory of evolution. There is the belief of Creationism and also the theory of Intelligent Design (which suggests God, but also allows even that aliens could be responsible). Darwin himself said “we cannot prove that a single species has been changed” and that the eye could not possibly have been formed by natural selection.

Evolution has many weaknesses debated by scientist such as: “evolution has never been observed; evolution violates the 2nd law of thermodynamics; there are no transitional fossils; the theory of evolution says that life originated, and evolution proceeds, by random chance; evolution is only a theory; it hasn't been proved.” To me, those big words mean that there is no proof of evolution. There can be changes, or modifications within a species, but not change from one species to another. And it cannot be said where the life first came from to begin the evolutionary process.

Looking up information on evolution for this piece has made my heart hurt. It is amazing to me that so many highly educated people have such differing opinions. Then again, it does not amaze me. Evolution is one attempt at explaining away God, disproving Him. I read more than one quote that called evolutionism a religion. Not one single thing I have read could make ME believe that God did not create us all, all of this entire solar system. I do not know how He did it. Is some form of evolution involved? I do not know. He does not give us those details. There ARE details of the creation of man. That is enough for me. Everything in creation, to me, is a miracle and the thought of it just happening by chance, is ridiculous.

America has a government system based on a biblical view, but it also tolerates and protects other viewpoints. High school and college biology textbooks do not provide students with evidence against evolution. Some examples in textbooks have been proven to be false, yet they are still in the textbooks. So instead of teaching our children in school that evolution is the only way, a fact that has never and cannot be proven, the other views, or the weaknesses should be presented to our children also. When my children come to tell me that the teacher said we were once apes, I will once again read Genesis to them. I do not expect the schools to do that for me, but I do hope that they do not try to teach my children that our beliefs are ignorant and there is no other explanation other than random chance…

HEY STEF...LET'S JUST SAY...THAT SOME PEOPLE TODAY MIGHT ACT LIKE APES OR MONKEYS....BUT I KNOW WE DIDN'T COME FROM THEM! WE WERE CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD AND KIDS THAT ARE BEING BORN TODAY ARE STILL CREATED IN HIS IMAGE. NICE ARTICLE. HAVE A GOODNIGHT!

LOVE,
YOUR FFBH (friend from back home)

I discovered your blog by accident and decided to write a comment.

The movie Expelled has caused a huge amount of misunderstanding about evolution and the scientific pursuit of the explanation for the origin of life. Your post seems to me to be an example of this misinformation.

Sometimes it bothers me how ignorant most Americans are when it comes to science. I blame religion.
