May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer (Psalm 19:14)

Easter continued

I also know I still need to update some of you on B's tests. We have gotten all the results back. The MRI on her jaw shows that the disc is completely out of place but they can't do much about it right now. She will most likely need surgery for it but they don't want to do that until her bones are finished growing. She still has pain and problems opening her mouth all the way. We would appreciate your prayers on that. God can heal her so that she never has to have that surgery.
The MRI on her brain was fine but the EEG was not. She has brain activity that could cause seizures. She has migraines and it could be from that or not. She needs to be on medicine to control her headaches and the Dr. wants to use an anti-seizure med for that to cover both issues. The first med he put her on made her too sick, weak, and dizzy so we had to take her off that. We have to wait another week or so before he will prescribe another one.
B is also having issues at school. She did not pass the state math test and will have to take it again in May. But they are also going to test her for learning difficulties and even ADD. I think she has that--not the hyper part though. They want to get the testing for that done before the next state math test. I am happy about all of this testing and wish we had gotten it 2 or 3 years ago. I hate that she has to struggle and if there are ways to help her, I am thrilled to find them out!
Thanks for all the concern about the tests. I am sorry I did not update earlier. I was waiting to find out everything for sure and see how she did with the meds. Keep praying for her, we really appreciate it!

Sights on the drive home

I tried to find the owner, but had no luck. He/she (? I never even looked) wandered out and was eating grass next to the main road when I came back from trying to find an owner. I never heard anything, so I guess he/she did not cause any accidents. I hope he found his way home ( I think a man who lives nearby might had caught it).I have been expecting this to happen ever since I got to Texas. I did see one cow near the road after we first moved here and I thought about how Amy would think that was funny. So, as soon as I saw the cow and stopped I pulled out the cell phone to take a picture. It's just for you Amy!!!

Good Friday!!!!
A couple of years ago, we did away with the Easter Bunny at our house. Honestly, even the kids thought it was dumb. I never wanted them to be confused as to what Easter really is; it is all about Jesus and nothing about bunnies or eggs.
Many of you think I have gotten kind of extreme about things, like not celebrating Halloween, which I have written about before. So you will probably be surprised to hear that I disagree with people who think Easter is wrong. I do not feel bad for disagreeing with my pastor, because I do agree about the Easter bunny and people not focusing on the true aspect of it. But we do not plan to give up our baskets or our egg hunt. I like the spring aspect of the eggs and the hunt is just fun and we love the chocolate.
I agree with this article that I found –this is taken from apostolic.net--
**“There is no doubt that Easter and Christmas have their roots in paganism. I would argue that nearly everything in our culture is rooted in paganism. Even the names of the months of the year and planets are named after pagan gods. The basic idea behind our government is Roman, which is a pagan culture. The fact of the matter is that our entire culture is rooted in paganism. Just because something has its roots in paganism, does not mean that it is evil today. The question we must ask ourselves is whether something that is pagan in origin still carries the same pagan connotations it once did.
If we were to try to divorce ourselves from everything pagan, we would have to go out of society. The fact of the matter is that there is no such thing as a Christian culture. Christians can only separate themselves from evil aspects of the culture as much as they can, and attempt to live the best godly lives they know how. The question remains, then, as to what is evil in the culture. Applying common-sense to the Easter and Christmas issue, when people see Christians celebrating Easter and Christmas, do they view this as a pagan celebration, or a Christian celebration? Of course they view it as Christian. The pagan roots of these holidays have been divorced from these holidays, and they have been invested with new Christian meaning, and even new American cultural meaning. Easter egg hunting, Easter bunnies, and Christmas trees may have had pagan meaning, but they have been replaced with an American cultural meaning which has nothing to do with their original meaning.
Some object to celebrating Christmas or Easter because we are not commanded in the Scripture to do so. While it is a truthful observation that we are not commanded to do such, I would question as to whether or not the lack of such a prescriptive command means that we cannot celebrate the birth of Christ or His day of resurrection (Easter)? A lack of mention is not tantamount to a prohibition. The Scripture does not mention many good things the church does: choirs, Sunday-school, prayer-altars, and pews. These may not be necessary, but it is quite presumptuous to argue that we should not do these things simply because they are not mentioned in Scripture. We must be sure that our practices are consistent with the Bible's explicit commands, and principles, but we are being illogical to say that we cannot do something if it is not mentioned in the Scripture.
For the above reasons I do believe that it is good to celebrate Easter and Christmas because we are celebrating the resurrection and birth of Christ by doing so. In fact, when non-Christians see Christians who refuse to celebrate these Christian holidays, it sends a very confusing message to them.”**
It is true that we are not doing the bunny. And we are going to do our egg hunt on Saturday instead of Sunday. I want Sunday to be about the Resurrection nothing else. There will be a basket, but it is from Mommy and Daddy. The baskets have chocolate crosses in them. They also have things from the Christian bookstore—scripture pencils, bead bracelets saying I love Jesus and God loves you, religious t-shirts, and books that I picked out special for each of them. B is getting a book about being the best Christian girl you can be, E is getting the power of a praying child and K is getting a bible that is almost on her reading level—she will be able to read it alone soon. We will also be making resurrection cookies again. I think we are even going to watch the Passion of the Christ tonight for Good Friday.
I see "Easter" or "Resurrection Sunday" as a time to celebrate the sacrifice and love of Jesus. It is a chance to talk more about what Jesus did for us on the cross and the great love of God. Our family talks about these things every day. But Easter is a time to celebrate that with other Christians all around the world. It is a time that we hope the message gets out to more people than usual. It does bug me that some people show up to church on Easter but stay home the other Sundays, BUT it is such a wonderful chance to remind them of Jesus’ love and the hope that they can have in Him, and that only through His blood can we be saved. Maybe that one time a year that they come in to church they will “get it” and be changed.
So those are MY thoughts for you :). So Happy GOOD FRIDAY today! It is good. Praise God and praise Jesus. I am so thankful for what they both did for me!
There's a peace I've come to know
And I will rise when He calls my name
There's a day that's drawing near
When this darkness breaks to light
And the shadows disappear
And my faith shall be my eyes
Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise
And I hear the voice of many angels sing,
"Worthy is the Lamb"
And I hear the cry of every longing heart,
"Worthy is the Lamb"
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise

Moods
She always loves to go to school, but today is book character day. I am so bad about not being very creative when they do stuff like that at school. Her favorite book right now is called Pinkalicious, it is about a little girl who turns completely pink after eating too many pink cupcakes. So she is Pinkalicious today. Pink dress, pink crown, pink wand, and the pictures don't show it, but a pink face (using play makeup) and a strand of pink hair (I told her her own hair is close enough to pink). Pinkalicious also wears wings for some reason but we skipped that.
When I wanted to take a picture I actually got a smile out of her.

But you can see she still isn't very happy. She is always in a better mood once she gets to school. I am glad about that for her teacher's sake!
Since I had the camera out I tried to take a picture of the moon when I got back from the bus stop. It was huge and orange out to the west. It looked like the sun going down. My picture taking skills stink though because this is the best I got. Look it's a UFO in there!
After my bad mood morning I decided to go sit on the porch and watch the sun come up while I drank my coffee. I felt like my mom. It was chilly so I wore a jacket and took a blanket (it was about 60 degrees--it is getting up to 85 today!) and I also took the camera.I never actually got to see the sun. There were clouds rolling by so fast I was amazed. Sitting on my porch definitely helps a bad mood for me. You know I love my view. But watching the sky and clouds and thinking about the awesomeness of God is a wonderful way to start the morning. I will have to do it this weekend and take K with me!

Updates
Tomorrow is the TAKS test for math (the Texas state test). B has to pass that to get promoted to 6th grade. She has a lot of trouble in math, so she may not pass it. They can take it 2 or 3 more times if they fail it, but we are praying for her to pass the first time and get that stress out of the way. So, if you read this soon, say a little prayer for her please. It is very stressful for her. She has been going to after school tutoring because her practice scores were so bad. We will not know how she does for a couple of weeks.
I also wanted to update on my bible study reading. I am still a couple of days behind. I finished Isaiah today and am getting ready to start on Jeremiah. I can't believe I am over half way through! I did cheat last week. I was behind from spring break, so I skipped the whole book of Proverbs. I have read all of it before so I skipped it to try to catch up. I was going to cheat on Isaiah, in a different way, but I did not. I was going to "cheat" by listening to it on CD. I have been listening, but it is so good I am reading and then listening in the car--instead of skipping ahead to where I was in my reading I am listening to what I already read because it is so good!
A couple of weeks ago I bought an awesome bible on CD. It is the Bible Experience. I got it 50% off at the Christian bookstore and I love it. It is dramatized and read by tons of famous actors. It is like listening to a movie--with your eyes closed or something. I got it mostly to listen in the car with the kids. They really enjoy it. We have already listened to all of Genesis up past Noah--I stopped before Sodom and Gomorrah. They have also been listening to some Psalms and Isaiah with me. I will go back to more of Genesis with them soon. it is a wonderful thing to do in the car--especially on our half hour rides to church.
Even being constantly a couple of days behind in my reading, I am enjoying this so much! I am so glad I chose this class. It is amazing to read the Bible this way--straight through and quickly. It has made events in the Old Testament make more sense to me, reading them close together and in order. Maybe it helps me remember who or when something happened better, I am not sure what it is but I love it. I definitely don't think reading to so quickly is the only way to read it--I definitely need time to study some of it in detail. The class discussions help with some stuff and we watch a video of this bible teacher who makes some points that are very good and teaches me some things I did not know at all or brings things to my attention that I may have missed. I am writing down things as I read that I want to go back to later or that stand out to me. I am a little worried about Jeremiah though--the prophets are so deep and interesting. I had better get to that now!
The kids are asleep and it is my time to read before I go to bed. I have to go before I get another day behind!!!

Complaining and rambling
I am already having a frustrating week. Saturday the computer problem was the virus protection deciding to stop letting me on the internet completely. After hours of tech support and messing with areas of the computer that I do not want to know exist, all I had to do was completely disable the virus protection. Of course that is not good, but I don't feel like calling that company and messing with them yet.
On Sunday, K woke up with pinkeye. I had a little bit of leftover medicine for that, but we had to miss church. B went to church with a friend and then played with her for a while. She came home insisting that her wrist was broken. She had hurt it the day before while doing handstands and cartwheels, but said now it hurt even worse and even moving her fingers made her cry. So at 6pm, we headed to the ER.
The ER we go to is very small and usually not busy. I decided to let them check out K's eye too so we would not have to miss school just to get more medicine. In Texas, doctors are not allowed to call in meds at all. You HAVE to go for a visit to get meds. That can be very annoying sometimes.
B got her xray and was told it was just a sprain and wrapped up with an ACE bandage. K was given her prescription and we were back home about 8. Annoying, but at least no one had to miss school for a dr. visit.
Yesterday I was on the computer and it was fine. Then a few minutes later no response from keyboard or mouse. Reboot. Keyboard failure. AAAGGGHHHH!!!!! I hate computer problems. I told Luke about half the reason I am married to him is so he can take care of the computer, cars and yard. Well, that isn't really true (when I married him we did not have a computer or a yard and barely had a car), but it is certainly something I depend on him for and am getting tired of dealing with by myself. Two more months to go, two more months....
After some time today, a few minutes on the phone with Dell support and some unplugging and replugging, everything is perfect again. I am so addicted to the internet, it is a shame. The kids had to take lunch to school because we did not have a new lunch menu (new month) and we could not get online to check weather when it was time to lay out clothes. They are as bad as I am.
Yesterday before I had computer problems, there were several things I was going to write about but they all left my head. I will have to think about that and try again tomorrow. Right now I still feel slightly grouchy because of my rough few days, even while knowing how absolutely blessed I am to have such minor problems. I think I need to go read my bible for a little while and have some lunch.
